REFUND RAFFLE #19
for
Almost Home For Hounds
Drawing: Monday, July 6, 2009 at 6:00PM

The sparkle and romance of smoky topaz and 14K gold invite one generous-minded greyhound lover to adopt Tiny 8Ball as their own and help Almost Home For Hounds at the same time. Will it be you?
The 1.25" pendant, adorned with a tiny greyhound, comes with its own keepsake box of solid pietersite etched with Mike, and for a little added glamour, Kathy Sondej, a greyhound's best friend with connections to the perfume industry, has contributed the luxurious bottle of "Creed." It's an extravagant package, this unique pendant alone having been valued at $650 in Greyhounds In Art, 2008 at Dewey Beach, and Creed runs in excess of $200 in this size.

Life has changed quite a bit at Almost Home for Hounds, since the closing of the last Colorado greyhound racetrack. Because of the closings, Heather has received an enormous number of senior greyhounds. Many broods, severely injured ex-racers, and "farm pets" have all found refuge at AHH, along with a good number of injured and very young puppies.

Among rescue and adoption groups, it is common knowledge that seniors require more resources and are much more difficult to rehome, so every day they get one day older, just waiting for groups to take them in and find their forever homes. Currently, 30% of the population at AHH is over seven years of age.

Heather Weir, DVM reigns over her fiefdom in Nunn, CO, where greyhounds come and go by the hundreds, each and every one receiving Dr. Weir's special attention for general care like spaying/neutering and dentals, but also for surgical needs like breaks or amputations and special care for parasites and diseases. Not only does she attend to each greyhound's medical needs, but she also personally delivers healthy dogs to groups who will take them in. As this is being typed, Heather is about to haul dogs to Washington state, return home to attend to a load of new arrivals, and then depart again to deliver dogs to California. These are not short road trips! The woman is a tireless advocate for greyhound pets.
